Parabolic-accelerating vector waves

چکیده
Abstract Complex vector light fields have become a topic of late due to their exotic features, such as non-homogeneous transverse polarisation distributions and the non-separable coupling between spatial degrees freedom (DoF). In general, beams propagate in free space along straight lines, being Airy-vector vortex only known exception. Here, we introduce new family that exhibit novel properties not been observed before, ability freely accelerate parabolic trajectories. addition, distribution contains states oriented at exactly same angle but with different ellipticity. We anticipate these might find applications optical manipulation, microscopy or laser material processing also extend others.

Accelerating parabolic beams.
We demonstrate the existence of accelerating parabolic beams that constitute, together with the Airy beams, the only orthogonal and complete families of solutions of the two-dimensional paraxial wave equation that exhibit the unusual ability to remain diffraction-free and freely accelerate during propagation. Since the accelerating parabolic beams, like the Airy beams, carry infinite energy, we...
متن کاملObservation of accelerating parabolic beams.
We report the first observation of accelerating parabolic beams. These accelerating parabolic beams are similar to the Airy beams because they exhibit the unusual ability to remain diffraction-free while having a quadratic transverse shift during propagation. The amplitude and phase masks required to generate these beams are encoded onto a single liquid crystal display. Experimental results agr...
متن کاملThree-dimensional accelerating electromagnetic waves.
We present a general theory of three-dimensional non-paraxial spatially-accelerating waves of the Maxwell equations. These waves constitute a two-dimensional structure exhibiting shape-invariant propagation along semicircular trajectories. We provide classification and characterization of possible shapes of such beams, expressed through the angular spectra of parabolic, oblate and prolate spher...
متن کاملTravelling Waves for Fourth Order Parabolic Equations
We study travelling wave solutions for a class of fourth order parabolic equations. Travelling wave fronts of the form u(x, t) = U(x + ct), connecting homogeneous states, are proven to exist in various cases: connections between two stable states, as well as connections between an unstable and a stable state, are considered.
متن کاملChapter 5 Parabolic modelling of water waves
The propagation of linear water waves over a three-dimensional ocean is modelled using the mildslope equation. Various parabolic wave models are described that approximate the governing elliptic partial differential equation, and so are very convenient for computing wave propagation over large distances. Several aspects are discussed: computation of the reflected wavefield, the construction of ...
